Questions about video games/socializing online. who does it?

Question: Questions about video games/socializing online. who does it?

(Posted by: Jennifer on 2010-03-09 21:10:33)

I am writing a paper for a critical thinking class and it is about fantasy games (i.e. world of warcraft, second life, even sims...any game really). The paper is going to talk about people who play these games, but more specifically people who socialize online- and whether or not they only socialize online...Also this difference between socializing online and in "real life ". I'm looking for any imput anyone might have. Also I have come up with some questions: 1. Do you play any games or socialize online? 2. If yes what games/ where do you socialize? 3. What do you think are the differences between this online world and the "real world " 4. Do you think any personality type is more prone to being online, and socializing online more than in the real world? 5. How would you describe this personality? Please let me know if you have any comments or questions. Thanks, Jenny

1. Yes i play games and solialize online 2. World of warcraft 3. there are many variables to this question. personally there is a very fine line between an online world and the "real world ". the only difference really is your not seeing a person face to face while socializing but that could be considered no different then talking on the phone in some respects. you can (in the online world) get away with things that you normally would not do or say in the real world to people you are seeing face to face. 4. I dunno i think any and all people can get sucked into an online world. though it varies from person to person how involved they get and what they play or do. 5. im a geek so i like my gaming :)

I socialize via xbox live when I play games, but I am in college and married so I don't consider it the only time I socialize. The difference for me is when I am online no one is judgmental and its easy to not face a person online. I am kinda awkward in real life and normally not even comfortable enough to go to a bar. When your are online, nothing else matters but when you say, in real life people look at you to see if you are worthy of associating themselves with you. 1.) Yes I play games online via xbox...but not a huge chatter (dont know anyone) 2.) I like to play first person shooters, rpgs, and whatever else sounds interesting at the time. 3.) I think people that are just shy and uncomfortable in social situations tend to enjoy online communication.

1. Yes, but mainly game communication. As in I don't know them but we play good together. 2. Many mostly shooter games as that's where you need most communication from teammates. 3. The object is to win the game. That's the complete discernible difference for me with exception of little 12 year old that like to be all bad azz. I'm 18 btw. 4. No not that I can think of? Considering I see many different age genres and personality types. This experience of their personality is mainly over a mic. and usually concentrated on beating the game. Not chatting. 5. It's random, some are very helpful some are jerks without giving them a better name. Note: The one thing I see the most is young kids teasing and trying to hurt each other by basically bullying others, trying to kick them from games etc. Most of the people I play with are very generous and helpful. This will vary somewhat from game to game. There are options not to play with a player if they're unscrupulous in any way and most mature decent gamers will use it. The one thing is we have options on all the Xbox Live to either, "prefer the player " or "ignore this player " I just wanted to indelibly say it's from personality to personality. The same week people hide behind their games, consoles, and computers as the way they hide in real life. Hope that helps you on your paper Jenny

1. Do you play any games or socialize online? - I do socialize online, and I do play games. But when playing games online, I just sometimes have casual conversations with the other players. Though, I don't make it long-term. 2. If yes what games/ where do you socialize? - The site I use is Gaiaonline, and whatever games I play on Xbox Live. Such as, the Call Of Duty series, Halo, and whatever else. 3. What do you think are the differences between this online world and the "real world. " - There's more possibilities on the internet, than there are in actual life. You can't really have fun role-playing in the real world, and more people communicate better through textual conversations as well as microphone. The antisocial stereotype is the most of the people whom do this. It's easier for them to make first contact without actually being in front of the person. In other words, people who are shy. 4. Do you think any personality type is more prone to being online, and socializing online more than in the real world? - No, anyone and everyone could socialize online. But the more likely are the antisocial ones. 5. How would you describe this personality? - Antisocial, and or shy.

1. Yes 2. Online games, I only play Pangya US and Battlefield 2. And I'm on Twitter and Facebook. (Not much of a blogger, but I have a blog.) 3. Not much of a difference since you'd just see people in the real world who (usually) comes with different mother language. 4-5. Not quite, personality doesn't matter, as for myself, most of my best friends are made online, it's just people you can't see in your daily neighborhood and life. I still have people like that in my neighborhood, and even "converted " one or two of those "online friends " into real life friends by meeting them. It's because of this I'd tend to go online to talk about my interests, while people in my class or neighborhood would be ok with casual conversations. As for now, I'm currently learning Japanese so I'd go play around in Japanese online games, (for my case, Square Enix's PartyCastle and lyrics-typing-game Typenist) Long story short, I socialize more in online than in the real world. I can barely speak in front of public (speeches? Hell no please) I'm sorry if my answer isn't satisfying. But online community is my favorite subject of discussion. = )
